Ⅱ Corinthians 9:7

“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

The National Retail Federation estimated that in 2013 the average American spent about $700 during the Holiday season. That is over $4.65 billion dollars across the nation. That’s a lot of gifts. Credit cards are being swiped by the millions every day across the world during this season of shopping and “gift” giving. One has to wonder, however, just how much of that money is truly “given” in a genuine spirit of giving.

The Bible says that God is pleased with a cheerful giver, but there is a vast difference in the eyes of God between a cheerful giver and someone swiping their credit card to buy forty people trinkets on sale that most of them will, unfortunately, never use. Although there are similarities between the two, one is mainly giving because it is the “season” in which to buy and give, while the other is creating a lasting impact on the heart.

The best explanation of a cheerful giver that makes an impact on the heart is that of God Himself. He is the giver of every good and perfect gift. The most perfect of which was the act of giving His own son as the payment for our salvation. It was an act of selfless giving that saved us from the lost and redeemed our very souls. A cheerful giver gives a gift that is meaningful and of value to the recipient and expects no recompense. A cheerful giver finds joy, happiness, and blessing to have within their power the ability to give. Who is better at this than the Lord Himself?

When you give, make sure you give as a cheerful giver. The Lord loves a cheerful giver.

61-0516A - “Jesus Christ The Same Yesterday, Today, And Forever”

Lord God, Creator of heavens and earth, the Author of Everlasting Life, and the Giver of every good and perfect gift… And that most perfect Gift, Lord, that we can think of was the gift that You gave us, the Son of God. And that He is alive today, forevermore, and He's been with the church down through this dismal time. And now as we see in this day, that the Light is shining in the evening time on the western people, proving that You keep Your Word to the letter… And I pray, God, that every man and woman here today may receive it, believe on Him. Those who do not know Him as their Saviour, may they receive Him just now, and say, "Lord, help Thou my unbelief."
