Acts 8:30-33

"And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him."

A normal Ethiopian Eunuch was led to Christ, simply because one man followed an abnormal leading from the Lord. This story in the book of Acts tells us that we must always follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, however crazy it may seem. We can know from experience and the Scripture that the Lord’s ways are not our ways. Regardless of the situation or the circumstances, we should always rely on His leading. Someone’s salvation might depend on how much you do respond to the Holy Spirit.

Charles Spurgeon wrote about this particular Ethiopian:

“…he followed the light he had, and though he had not yet come to the full glory of Christianity, it was more than probable that he would do so, because he was evidently prepared to follow truth wherever her flaming torch should lead the way.”

We see the Lord working in the lives of two individuals. Even though they didn’t know what was going to happen, the Holy Spirit was in control. That Ethiopian didn’t know what he was reading and the Holy Spirit provided him a teacher. He used Phillip to teach him the truth.

God will use you if you stay focused on the Holy Spirit. God will teach you through someone else if you are in the right attitude. This is how the Holy Spirit works in His people, by placing a thirst in one, and placing a burden on another. The two come together perfectly led by Christ.

What would it be if we laid aside our differences and simply relied on the leading of the Holy Spirit?

Focus on His leading.

60-0312 - "Door To The Heart"

That's what the Ethiopian said to Philip, "How can I know this, 'less some man teaches me?" The Holy Spirit was sent here for a teacher. Let Him come into your heart. He will teach you that Jesus is the same. He said, "When the Holy Ghost is come He will testify of Me." And we know that that's true.
