Proverbs 29:18

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

The whole of American society as it stands today started on October 12, 1492. On that day, a big man, strong and tall, jumped out of a lifeboat and claimed America for his country. Christopher Columbus was the first man to claim America for his country and “discover” the land. Ever since then, that day has been celebrated as Columbus Day.

He and his men braved the possibility of death by starvation or shipwreck, uncertainty, and all manner of hardship to find a land they didn’t even know existed. It was a vision that Christopher Columbus had. It was the pursuit of that vision that allowed America to be discovered.

What is your vision? The Scripture says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Where there is no hope, no anticipation, no struggle toward some goal, there can be no effort to achieve. Nothing is accomplished, and nothing is achieved, when there is no clearly defined vision.

Do you live with vision? Why not seek the Lord to see what His vision is for your life or for your family. God doesn’t want you to live without purpose and vision. He wants you to live for His purpose and His vision.

Great things will happen when you live with vision.

58-1003 - “Looking At The Unseen”

When Christopher Columbus was given ships by the queen of Spain and was… Because in his heart he saw a vision, that the world was round, and he had hardly a way he could prove it… He had nothing to do it with, but he was a man of vision. He believed it. And when the ship was given to him with a bunch of prisoners, cowards, that was his church members, a bunch of pull-backs, a bunch that was discouraged and tried to discourage him: "Just a little while longer and we will drop off the world. A serpent will rise from the bottom of the sea and wrap these little ships and pull it to the bottom." Now say, "Brave Rover, say, What will you say?" He said, "Sail on. Sail on, sail on and on." God give us men in the church like that. I don't care what the scientific world says. I don't care what the denominational world says. I take God at His Word and sail on. Sail on until you pass the barrier.
