I Corinthians 15:33
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”

We have most likely all witnessed it at one point or another, an individual starting to spend time with people they should not spend time with. Eventually a slow fade begins to take place. They start coming around less, then slowly stop coming to church; their behavior begins to mimic those they are spending time with. After a while, they are totally consumed by the people that have influenced them in the wrong direction. Only God could take that person and change their heart and mind.

The enemy seeks to infiltrate certain people and groups into our lives. It is a strategy of the devil to influence us away from God’s path for our lives. We may start out with good intentions, perhaps to witness and share the gospel, but Satan is always walking about seeking whom he may devour. It is our responsibility to be sober and to watch, as Peter wrote in I Peter 5:8. We have to always be on the lookout for those things that will influence in the wrong direction.

The best way to stop Satan in his tracks, when he deploys this tactic, is to separate yourself right away. If there is someone who is a major influence on you, that you may admire, but they are not living in a way that is pleasing to God, then you have to turn yourself away and go the other direction. Don’t let yourself be deceived by your emotions, because associations with the wrong kind of people will eventually affect you in the wrong direction. Make your stand on what you know is right, the Holy Spirit will lead you. Separate from bad company, seek good company with which to spend your time.

Bad company corrupts good morals.

57-0115 - “God Keeps His Word”
Watch your associates. Keep your company clean. Don’t go in the poolroom with that boy just because you think you can win him to Christ. You can’t win him to Christ in the church, or out at your own home, or setting in your car, you’ll never do it in the poolroom. I tell you, you’re on the devil’s ground. Stay away from it. Right. Separate yourself. God said, “Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith God; and then I’ll receive you.” God is looking for somebody who’s got the—the courage to stand forth. God has always wanted that.
