Luke 17:30-33

Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot's wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

Have you ever wondered why Lot’s wife was turned into a pillar of salt? Why salt?

The old Indian phrase goes, “Walk a mile in someone's moccasins before you make a judgement.” Lot’s wife was a prominent woman in the town; she had a beautiful family, a fine husband, and a wonderful life in Sodom. She even had a prominent home in the midst of the city. As she was following the Lord’s command and running to the mountains with Lot and their daughters she suddenly felt the stinging heat of God’s wrath pouring down on their friends in the city behind her. Lot’s wife had a mother's heart just like anyone. She was witnessing something very few women had ever experienced, the all powerful and almighty God of heaven and earth burning with fire and raining brimstone down on her former home and friends.

God specifically told them, “Do not look back.” Wouldn’t you want to know what was happening behind you? Not knowing what is behind you is one of the most vulnerable feelings. Of course the enemy would have employed the same tactic on you. She, for a split second, lost her ability to clasp the Word of God so tightly that it would have ruled out any possibility for a compromise in trusting Him. When that split second loss of grip on Christ happened, she turned to behold God’s wrath and immediately was turned to a pillar of salt.

She turned to salt, because she looked back for just a split second, and when she did, she compromised on what God told her to do. When the enemy tries to bring up the feelings of the world behind you, don’t look back. You have your hand on the plow, just keep plowing and don’t look back. Keep pressing on in the name of Christ.

We come up against something, say, "Well, they preach that, that that was…" Don't you do that! You do just what God said do. Stay with It, to the letter! Say, "It don't make any difference." 82 All right, the only thing I can say is what the Word says. And Jesus strictly said that, "Remember Lot's wife." She merely looked over her shoulder. Eve merely stopped for a moment. That's all she done. Lot's wife just looked back. And if… God turned that righteous man, Lot, his wife, to a pillar of salt, by just a little bitty thing, just disobeying his Commandments enough to just look back and see what all that fire was about, and she turned to a pillar of salt, and stands there yet today as an example that God means what He says.
