Acts 2:2

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

I’m sure we all imagine a different scene when we hear the story of the upper room experience. Some of us probably envision a long table with all of them seated, singing a song. Some probably envision people all around a dimly lit room, sitting on the floor in prayer. Regardless of what you see in your mind, there is one thing for sure: there was such an extraordinary atmosphere there that the Lord sent the Holy Spirit sweeping through the room, according to what He had prophesied.

It is the atmosphere which we create that invites the Holy Spirit to draw nearer. You can grieve the Holy Spirit by having the wrong attitude and creating the wrong atmosphere around you. Do you genuinely think the Holy Spirit feels welcome when there is a movie on with profanity and immorality? Do you think He feels welcome when there is arguing and bickering going on constantly? Do you think He would feel welcome if you are playing an instrument in a worldly style, and with a motive to draw attention to yourself?

The Holy Spirit feels welcome when a person invites the Holy Spirit to come, in a humble and welcoming attitude. You can create that atmosphere in prayer, in singing, and in playing Godly music on an instrument with the motive to praise His name.

Begin to practice creating an atmosphere where His presence can dwell. Always strive to have an atmosphere where the Holy Spirit would be free to come in, and speak to you whenever He wanted to. Work on creating a Godly atmosphere around you.

Now, you've got to create an atmosphere, and your faith will do it. They were all in the upper room with one accord, when suddenly there came from heaven as a sound of a rushing mighty wind; the atmosphere was right. It takes a atmosphere to do anything. You know, the regular procedure to hatch chickens is to put them under the hen. But get the egg in the right atmosphere, it'll hatch anyhow. Listen, brother, if a man loves God, and the right kind of an atmosphere he could get into, it'll produce a newborn babe just as certain as I am here. It's the atmosphere that counts. Let this little handful of people setting here tonight, get in the perfect atmosphere, watch what takes place. There will not be a feeble among a—one in our midst. The cripples will walk; the blind will see; the deaf will hear; the dumb will speak without prayer or anything. It's the atmosphere.
