Proverbs 6:16-19
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”
We have heard about lying all of our lives. It may seem pretty straight forward, yet we make the choice to lie or tell the truth sometimes hundreds of times in the span of a day. Some may be unimportant things, others may be big things, a little “white” lie to great big ones. One thing remains true, God hates a lying tongue.

When you lie, your whole body actually reacts. Tiny nerves all throughout your body respond when you do something against what is the truth. Your brain won’t lie, because if it knows something, it just knows it. You have to override your brain in order to lie, and your whole nervous system is aware of it. This is the basic understanding of why we still take lie detector tests. One thing about it, lying is of the devil. The devil was the first to lie and he has been doing it ever since; in fact, he is the biggest liar the world will ever know. He takes the Truth and he misrepresents it. This is what a lie is and why your body reacts to it the way it does, lying is the truth misrepresented.

There is only one way to stop lying: do the hard thing. Oftentimes telling the truth is hard and comes with unpleasant consequences. Perhaps God wants us to answer to those consequences and teach us in the process; so if we lie, we misrepresent the truth of the matter and rob God’s ability to mold and shape us. Lying is a horrible thing. The devil lies to you on a constant basis, so you may not be lying, yourself, but are you listening to lies? God hates it.

Don’t lie, tell the truth even when it hurts.

You know what that lie detector will say? “Yes, sir, you did. Yes, sir, you did.” You say, “I did not.” It’ll say, “Yes, you did.” Why? Because a lie is such a horrible thing. The body wasn’t made to lie. And it’s such a horrible thing, till it upsets the whole nerve system, when you lie. Whew! Upset like that, will give you ulcers, fungus growth, it’d kill you. And then a lie is a bad thing, ’cause, see, you’re not supposed to lie, to steal, to do any of these things.
