Luke 18:22

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

A young man came to Jesus one day who was probably the most up and coming man in Jerusalem in his day. The Rich Young Ruler was a prince, had great wealth, was kind and generous, and was known as a man of integrity and loyalty. He had kept all of his parents’ Godly teaching all throughout his life. Yet, there was still a portion of his heart that was still searching for something.

One day he finally met the source of life that could quench the longing in his heart. However, when he asked Jesus, “What must I do to receive eternal life?”,  Jesus answered him in a way the young man did not expect. Jesus could see in this man’s heart what those around him could not see. Jesus spoke directly to his unwillingness to surrender his everything to the Lord.

A Believer must surrender their all to Christ. You cannot come in just halfway. You must surrender your everything to Him in order for the Lord to use you in the way He desires. Eventually your walk as a Christian will prove what was really in your heart to begin with. Make sure that your stand for the Lord is really a complete surrender to Him, and not just an outward profession.

Make your stand for the Lord strong and make your calling and election sure. Sell out everything for Christ. Do all that you set your hand to do in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:23).

You see, a man's character is made known by his works. Whatever you are, your works prove what you are. No matter how much you testify, whatever you say, pro or con, that has nothing to do with it; your works tell what you are, tells what you are inside. Every job that you do manifests what you are. And you business men, if you just do a patched up job, see what I mean, just a halfway job, don't do that. If you can't do it right, don't do it at all. That's right. When you come to Christ, if you can't absolutely sell out lock, stock, and barrel, and come to Christ, don't come at all. But when you really want to be a Christian, stand out, make it real. That's what God wants you to be. And that'll—that'll prove… Your works will prove what your character is. Your character is known by the works that you do.
