Romans 11:29
“For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”

One can only imagine how amazingly the great ministers of the Great Awakening during the 1700’s must have preached.  Audiences were almost three times what they are now and had no speaker systems or fancy lighting, just a man of God with a Bible, speaking for the Lord. Men like Jonathan Edwards during this time, we can most assuredly say, had a gift and a calling. They yielded that gift to the Lord and God swept across the nation with His Spirit.

Could we say the same about ministers and pastors all across the world today that faithfully serve the Lord in their own assemblies? Do they have gifts and callings? What is a gift or calling?  Of course there are many that have gifts and callings in this day and age. In fact, each and every one of us have a gift or calling. God created you with a purpose because you were intentionally made to fulfill that purpose by your calling or gift. Sometimes it takes longer for some to find their gift, some may live in their calling without even realizing they are in it. Though we all have a gift and calling with which to serve the Lord, it is our choice whether or not we use it for the Lord.

The strange thing about a gift or calling is that it just comes naturally. King Solomon said that a person's gift will make way for itself (Proverbs 18:16). It is inside you to do a certain thing, and that is all there is to it. Some people sing, some preach, some play an instrument, some are hospitable, but we all have an innate gift or calling. The gift makes way for itself, but you must surrender yourself to Christ. He will work right through you through that gift, even if you are not aware of what He is doing.

Are you using your gift for Christ?

Now what is this? It’s a gift. See? A gift isn’t something like a stick or a sword, you cut with and things. A gift is—is a way to get yourself out of the way. See? You just…I have to get myself out of the way, then the Holy Spirit takes over. See? It isn’t what you take and do something with. It’s a gift to get yourself out of the way, then God uses you. See? After you get yourself…Just like a little… You can’t explain it, ’cause you can’t explain God. We believe God. We don’t explain Him; we can’t. You know God by faith, and not by science, or any other way. You don’t scientifically prove Him. You just believe Him. You can’t prove what love is. You can’t prove what joy is. The whole armor of God, love, joy, peace, longsuffering, meekness, gentleness, patience, that’s all supernatural. See? You can’t prove it, but you know you got it. See? That’s it, so you know it yourself.
