Peter 5:8

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

Scripture says that satan walks about “as” a roaring lion, which means he isn’t anything more than a bluff to the Believer who is safe underneath God’s wings. Satan only acts like a roaring lion. He has no teeth, so all he could potentially do is gum you to death. However, he does present himself as a formidable foe and tries as hard as he can to thwart you like a lion. Just remember that our enemy has already lost to the actual Lion of the tribe of Judah.

Lions hunt some of the fastest mammals on the planet. Consequently, lions have developed a few main hunting methods to catch these fast animals. The usual way a lion hunts is to find a bush close to a vital resource, such as water, and wait for the prey to approach.

There are two things that help the lion considerably. First, they’re phenomenally patient. Second, the gazelle and antelope are physically fast, but are not mentally as spright. They pay too little attention to learning from their mistakes or the mistakes of their fallen companions. One thing that the antelope or gazelle must do is to keep vigilant of what lies in the shadows.

This is not the age to be careless about our enemy. We cannot afford to become negligent in watching how the enemy might slip into our vessels and homes. It is the age to be mighty through the power of God and by it overcome all weapons formed against us. It is “not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Zechariah 4:6). Peter tells us in the very next verse, “Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” (1 Peter 5:8).  It is only through the Holy Spirit teaching us and guiding us that we could ever foresee the traps and snares of the enemy. We can rest soundly in peace and assurance in the Lord that He will uphold us in the time of our testing and trials.

This is the most spiritually important period of history ever, and you are living in it. Watch, be wary of the influences of the world slipping into your life and home, be vigilant, and stand firm in the faith of the fathers. We have the victory through the power of Almighty God. Stay sober and stay vigilant.

An Exposition Of The Seven Church Ages (Chapter 9 - The Laodicean Church Age)

Oh elect of God, beware. Study closely. Be careful. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Rely upon God and be strong in His might. Your adversary, the devil, is even now going about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Watch unto prayer and be steadfast. This is the end time. Both the true and false vine are coming into maturity, but before the wheat matures, those ripened tares must be bound for the burning. See, they are all joining the World Council Of Churches. That is the binding. Soon the garnering of the wheat will come. But right now the two spirits are at work in two vines. Come out from among the tares. Start to overcome that you may be considered praiseworthy for your Lord, and fit to reign and rule with Him.
